Welcome to my new blog!

I'm very happy about having a new venue to share my artwork and absolute love of watercolor.

Concentration from my artistic efforts has really helped the pieces flourish recently.  Quantum leaps have been achieved in the style and technique - the luminosity, colors, details, and themes of these new original watercolor paintings.  I hope you enjoy them.  Besides sharing my new paintings, I'll share the wonderful artistic opportunities and events transpiring throughout the year, for which I'm very grateful, in future blogs.

Grandeur, Kamakahonu Bay
Watercolor
30 x 17

This is one of my favorites, a landscape, which is going to grace the newly renovated dining room in the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel.  I love the shadows under the canoes.  I believe it reflects the sacredness of the heiau, the ancient temple, yet is a contemporary piece.  I am interested in representing the Hawaiian culture in a beautiful way.

Honokohau Harbor
Watercolor
18 x 22

I love the juxtaposition of the boat in the harbor, with the naturalness of the papaya tree!  I walked through the harbor with a friend one day, since boats are a popular subject, and was intrigued by the large number of lines and rigging.  It looks tropical, inviting and tranquil.

Child's Play at Kua Bay
Watercolor
22 x 18

I decided to paint figures in this painting, in hopes of doing more in the future.  Observing a friend's son play chase at the beach,  I liked the dynamic activity.  I love ocean scenes with their eternal waves, but for this wanted something more playful and joyful.

Serene Energy
Watercolor
22 x 30

The Koi was my most challenging painting yet, because it incorporated two different scenes, one calm with the pond vegetation, and one energetic with the koi swimming.

You can see more of my original watercolor paintings on my website at www.dianetunnellart.com.

Aloha,
